Riverside cottage in Kew

This gorgeous cottage garden sits alongside the River Thames towpath in Kew, in a prestige location that engages the attention of many passers-by.

My clients wanted appealing seating areas in front and back gardens and plenty of exuberant planting to enhance the setting.

We made new paths, patios and raised beds, using a mixture of materials from the original garden supplemented with reclaimed Yorkstone and London stock bricks, to harmonise with the style of the cottage.

We installed new fencing and trellis, which, along with the existing railings, were painted in a soft green that fitted with the woodland feel of the towpath and matched the pretty patio tables. An arched mirror in the front garden helped the space seem larger by reflecting light and plants.

We devoted as much space as we could to planting, filling the new borders with a vibrant mix of evergreens, herbaceous perennials and bulbs, to produce an everchanging  succession of interest throughout the year.
